Jonathan “Scarecro” Flores was born in Dallas, Texas 06-16-1979 (same date as the late Tupac Shakur) and raised on the East Side of Fort Worth, Texas. He is a self-taught artist, who at the very young age of 5, showed an interest in art and drawing. Encouraged by his older brother, he would often sit down to draw with him. As his love for art began to develop. At the age of 15, Flores wanted a tattoo for himself “real bad!” His first tat was an Old English letter “F” on his calf. It was at this age that he himself started drawing on skin.
Jonathan describes his style as urban/hood/street, but with class. His skills were fine-tuned thanks to the State of Texas after being sent to prison at the age of 18. The will to learn and sharpen his skills while in prison was fueled by the abundance of very talented artists that surrounded and inspired him.
Jonathan has been a professional tattoo artist now for about 3 years officially. “My favorite thing about a tattoo is the designing process. I love the process of coming up from nothing to something. My second favorite thing about a tattoo is the actual process of tattooing the art on someone “ says Flores. His honesty speaks true of his character when he tells you that he does it for the love of the industry, the art and the money. “I enjoy meeting the free-spirited people who are a constant reminder of what America was founded on…freedom to be YOU.”
Flores is married with 2 boys, Jonathan Flores Jr. (5) and Julian Freedom Flores (1). The streets are a constant reminder of where he came from and are a huge motivator for being a good father to his boys and becoming the best, successful and versatile artist that he can be. “I grew up on the streets in a single parent home, without ever knowing my dad and being a father I never had motivates me. We were real poor and at a young age you wise up quick, see a lot, and learn a lot. The experiences, losses, punishments, wishes, dreams, and nightmares that occurred during my youth are my inspirations.”
Jonathan’s thoughts and tattoo advice:
“Tattoos are very addicting!!! People love to speak their minds, express themselves, and tattoos are a non-verbal method for them to do this without ever saying a word. Once an individual gets that first tattoo, they feel like they have so much more to say and express, leading to multiple tattoos. What it really all boils down to is tattoos are cool and cool people have them!
I think people love tattoos for the same reason they are so addicting. I think people hate them, because they envy the freedom of one’s carefree choice to get a tattoo. Many people hate tattoos or refrain from receiving tattoos, because of career restrictions, fear issues, the loss of social status/influence, or because of religion.”
Advice for someone getting inked for the first time:
“Be very thoughtful of what you want, use as many references possible to help aid your choices and complete the design, keep it “you”, have some meaning to the design, ask for constructive criticism, and realize that tattoos are very permanent!”

His nickname "Scarecro" was given to him by his older brother when he was a young teenager. His brother claimed that Jonathan's skinny arms looked liked sticks. On top of that, Jonathan frayed his denim jeans at the cuffs (which was the style at the time) Put that all together and I think you can see why his brother gave him that nickname...
